Gen-Math Machines: Way to Increase Academic Performance of Senior High School Learners

This study focused on determining the effect of the use of Gen-Math Machines which are manipulatives or teaching tools in one of the core subjects of Senior High School, General Mathematics. The teacher-researcher asked the learners to develop Gen-Math Machines that would elicit the things that they are learning in General Mathematics, and those machines were used in enhancing skills of learners in General Mathematics. One hundred forty-four learners became the respondents for this study, and they were the grade 11 learners of Talangan Integrated National High School, school year 2017-2018. Data came from the result of a 20-item quiz given after teaching sessions on the topic Exponential and Logarithmic Function - one set of data using teaching process without the aid of Gen-Math Machines while the other set of data came from teaching process with the aid of Gen-Math Machines. For teaching process without the aid of Gen-Math Machine, the learners got a mean of 9.94 and an SD of 4.38 from a 20-item short response quiz. On the other hand, learners got a mean of 14.65 and an SD of 8.87. Learners obtained higher mean when manipulatives are used during the teaching-learning process. Using t-test for dependent samples, it was found out that teaching process using Gen-Math machines has significant effect to the Mathematical performance of learners. The Gen-Math improved learners' concept and skill in mathematics. Recommendations to mathematics teachers, department head, school heads, family, community and future researchers were laid down at the end of the study.

Essentials of Home Visitation: Teachers', Learners' and Stakeholders' View

This study highlights an in-depth study on the view of teachers, learners and stakeholders on the need for home visitation. A study on the effect of teacher's home visitation to the academic performance of the learner is also a focus of this work. Encompassing three years of home visitation for the learners of Talangan Integrated National High School, the teacher-researcher was able to gather data on the academic performance of the learners during their first semesters, particularly the General Academic Strand (GAS) and Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) strands of Senior High School. It was revealed that home visitation significantly helps in increasing the academic performance of learners. Teachers, learners and stakeholders all agree that home visitation helps on the following key essentials of home visitation - establishing contract between teacher, learner and parents; precautionary measure, and not remedy to learner problems; aid in maintaining good academic performance; creating a home extension of learning and evaluation; and inculcating responsible citizenship for future leaders in community.

Efficient Use of Audio-Visual Equipment in Teaching and Learning: Its Implication to School Supervision

This paper aimed at determining the possible effectiveness of the use of audio-visual equipment in English, Math and Science subjects to the academic performance of grade 8 learners in Talangan Integrated National High School. Three sections of grade 8 and their teachers in English, Math and Science became part of this action research. At the end of the study, implication to school supervision was lined-up to improve teaching strategy among teachers. The three sections of Grade 8 (Courteous, Caring and Charity), with a total number of 102 became part of the participants for this study. This paper is a quantitative research which took note on the performance of the learners in three subjects - English, Science and Mathematics. Three quizzes were given on all subjects after each session without the use of audio-visual material. After that, audio-visual materials are used and another three quizzes were given after each session. Without the use of audio-visual material, the mean level of learners are 5.48, 6.91 and 4.27 in English, Mathematics and Science, respectively, in quizzes which are out of 10. On the other hand, the mean level of learners in a quiz with 10 items using audio-visual material are 9.00, 8.48 and 4.45 in the said three subjects, respectively. Using t-test for paired sample mean, it was found out (with the assurance of the p-values 0.01, 0.00 and 0.22 for English, Science and Mathematics, respectively) that the use of audio-visual materials significantly improved learners' performance only in English and Science. Recommendations to teachers, school heads, district and division officials, and to future researchers were given at the end of the study. Implications to school supervision, especially on classroom observation, are also mentioned to guide school heads and master teachers in improving teaching strategy among teachers.

2C-2I-1R Approaches: Way to Reduce Math Anxiety among Senior High School Learners

This study aimed at determining the possible solution to the Math anxiety of Senior High School (SHS) learners. Alongside with teaching, the author explored different activities which promote the 2C-2I-1R approaches (collaborative, constructivism, integrative, inquiry-based and reflective) that the Department of Education in the Philippines mandated to be used for 21st century learners. A survey on Math anxiety level among 100 SHS learners was conducted and it was found out that they have a moderate level of Math anxiety. Different teaching approaches in teaching Mathematics, specifically Statistics and Probability, were applied in classroom teaching. After exploring the different approaches in teaching and learning for a period of one month, the Math anxiety level of the learners was significantly reduced to low level. Near the end of the study, recommendations were given to master teachers, school heads, district heads and officials, and future researchers.

School Culture: Its Effect on Teachers' Work Values in Masapang Elementary School

This study focused on determining the effect of the awareness on school culture to the work values of the teachers in Masapang Elementary School, Victoria, Laguna, school year 2018-2019. School culture cannot be easily changed over a period of time. It is already part of the daily routine of the people moving inside the school - teachers, learners and stakeholders. But having the awareness on the different school culture is something that the researcher investigated, whether or not it affects the teachers' work values. This study went on a quantitative design in doing an action research. Twenty elementary teachers became the respondent of this study. The school head, which is also one of the researchers, introduced a 45-item work values survey and 40-item school culture survey to determine the work characteristics of teachers and their perception of school culture. Then the researchers conducted a series of school learning action cell (SLAC) that centered on the discussion of different school culture in four dimensions - individualism-collectivism, power distance, uncertainty avoidance, and masculinity-femininity. To find out if their work values changed, a post survey was conducted. Data was recorded and processed. It was found out that work values significantly increased after the conduct of School Learning Action Cells. Specifically, 8 attributes of work values out of 15 had significant increase - management, surroundings, associates, aesthetics, prestige, independence, variety, and economic return. Recommendations to school heads, teachers, community officials and future researchers were given at the end of the study.
